Dr. Henry Herbert Lartey, the leader of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), has said that the party has what it takes to improve the country's socioeconomic situation.
As a result, he has urged Ghanaians to cast large votes for the party in the general election in 2024 so that it can put its policies that would make the country self-sufficient into action.
Dr. Lartey stated in an interview with the Daily Graphic in Accra that the GCPP had been propagating self-sufficiency ideals since its inception, and that if that were accepted by the population, "we would not have been where we are now as a nation."
Dr. Lartey stated, "When given the mandate to serve the good people of Ghana in the 2024 elections, the GCPP is poised to change this situation."
Economic difficulties and the third force "The GCPP is the third force in our political arena, so we should have been in governance by now, but the electorates have failed to offer us that glorious opportunity over the years,"
Dr. Lartey stated, "However, considering the dwindling fortunes of the economy caused by both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the electorates will now see the need to offer us their mandate in the next general election."
Dr. Lartey said that if the electorates had been sincere with the GCPP and offered their mandate to his party, Ghana would have been self-sufficient by now and would not have been relying on donor nations to develop the country. He expressed concern about the sluggish pace of development since the Fourth Republic was established more than three decades ago.
He lamented, "Ghanaians should not blame anyone for the present mess they are going through because they failed to vote the GCPP into power since the party was established." As a result, he said, "The present socio-economic mess being experienced in the country was created by Ghanaians."
Reorganization In terms of the future, Dr. Lartey stated that the GCPP had been establishing all structures, from the national to the zonal, in order to enable the party to begin electing its leaders and kick off the electioneering in 2024 with a vengeance.
Farmers and Young People According to him, in contrast to the NPP and NDC, which had always won elections through numerous campaign promises, the GCPP would focus on farmers and young people in order to develop their skills in the production of cash and traditional crops for local consumption and export.
He stated, "They can create jobs for the youth to reduce the unemployment rate that has become a national canker if we are able to support farmers to expand farming and embark on export of their products to generate foreign exchange."
When it came to the young people, Dr. Lartey said that it was essential for them to understand that because of the GCPP, they would have a government ready to provide them with opportunities to maximize their potential for their own benefit and the nation's.
