[ Breaking News] FixTheCountry’s Barker-Vormawor reportedly arrested.

Lead convener of pressure group #FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has been arrested again.

Felicity Nelson, one of the group’s conveners, told Joy News that he was picked up on Tuesday morning by Police officers while on his way to the court.

A post on the Movement’s Facebook page read: “Oliver arrested again. Police officer told him his rights are curtailed as soon as he was arrested. We are not safe.”

The good governance advocate has recently intensified his criticism of the Akufo-Addo government following the harsh economic conditions in the country.

In his recent discussions in the media, the freedom fighter has kicked against some policies of the current regime, especially the implementation of the E-Levy ACT and the review of the controversial Agyapa deal.

He was arrested earlier this year after threatening to stage a coup if the E-levy was passed by parliament.

Barker-Vormawor was granted bail in the sum of Two Million Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 2,000,000.00) with two sureties by the Tema High Court presided over by Justice Daniel Mensah on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.

Mr. Barker-Vormawor had, through his lawyers, assured the court he will show up to stand trial when needed despite the severity of the offence of Treason Felony leveled against him.

His lead Counsel, Akoto Ampaw told the court the case against his client is preposterous and not supported by any evidence. He insisted the constitution guarantees his client liberty and a right to be presumed innocent.

Some Ghanaians have chastised the government for holding the activist in police custody for long, especially when the Attorney General’s office said it had doubts Barker-Vormawor will avail himself for police or the court.
