An air date for Hush Hush has been set. The upcoming dramatic thriller series, which stars an all-female cast, will debut on September 22 according to Amazon Prime Video. Juhi Chawla and Ayesha Jhulka, who are making their streaming debuts, co-star in the seven-episode series with Soha Ali Khan (Rang De Basanti), Kritika Kamra, Shahana Goswami, and Karishma Tanna. After a four-year absence, executive producer and director Tanuja Chandra is back on the program.
Hush Hush is described as a thriller that centers on a group of women whose idyllic lives start to fall apart as a result of an unexpected event, though specifics are scarce. The women are compelled to cooperate and weave a web of lies and deceit when long-buried secrets are revealed and threaten to destroy their family. Amazon is marketing this primarily on the basis of the all-female cast and crew — with no concrete information on the actual content — even though the premise sounds somewhat similar to HBO's Big Little Lies.
Shikhaa Sharma (Sherni), who collaborated with Ashish Mehta to realize a complete screenplay, wrote the story that Chandra, best known for the Irrfan Khan-starring Qarib Qarib Singlle, uses as the basis for his direction. For the dialogues, the two collaborated with Juhi Chaturvedi (Piku).
Hush Hush, along with 57 other titles, was announced earlier this year as a part of their Indian Originals lineup with a release date in the next two years. Women make up half of the population, but there aren't many stories told from their perspective or from their point of view, according to Aparna Purohit, Head of India Originals at Prime Video.
With Hush Hush, Prime Video is going even further in its commitment to producing female-forward stories. "At Prime Video, we are committed to giving a global platform to diverse, authentic, and relatable female stories. Hush Hush is a moving and captivating story featuring complex, nuanced women who command the screen.
Hush Hush is being produced by Abundantia Entertainment, which is run by Vikram Malhotra. The studio previously oversaw films like Noor, Jalsa, and the Vidya Balan and Shefali Shah-led Shakuntala Devi. He said in a prepared statement that in addition to championing female-first narratives, which are stories about and centered on strong women told by equally strong voices, they also "pursue our philosophy of bringing disruptive content to our audience."
Starting on September 22, Hush Hush will only be accessible via Amazon Prime Video.
